Medieval and Renaissance music on the lute and the vihuela.
Joaquim Bogunyà has studied early plucked string instruments with William Waters and other well-known musicians such as Rolf Lislevand or Xavier Díaz-Latorre. He is also a Bachelor of Arts and a specialist in foreign languages.
He has attended several courses and festivals such as Early Music Morella, organised by members of Capella de Ministrers, or Curs de Música Antiga a Catalunya, organised by members of Capella Reial de Catalunya and the ensemble Hesperion XXI.
He has performed in the four Catalan provinces with medieval music Ensemble Scandicus and Renaissance music ensemble El Canto del Cavallero, the latter formed by members of the ensemble Musica Reservata de Barcelona. Together with Francesc Llorens, is a founder member of Duo Seraphim. He has often given solo concerts, as well.
From 1999 on, the Lute Society publishes several of his compositions. In the year 2001 he wins the first prize at the Lute Society's Composition Contest. Between the years 2012 and 2020, the Society publishes four books written by him for the Renaissance lute and a book of songs for lute and voice. The pieces are written in a historical style. He has also published 'The Flute and the Lute', a compilation of English and Spanish pieces from the Renaissance arranged for the recorder or treble instrument and the lute or the vihuela.
He has made a CD with a full recording of all the pieces contained in his first book, '20 Pieces for Solo Lute'. He has also collaborated in the first album of Consort Pere Serra, a recorder flute chamber orchestra in Catalonia. The recording sessions for a second solo album are going to take place in the near future.
